A weekend away from the backwaters of Cornwall, (where most of his time was spent skateboarding, surfing and collecting hip hop records) Luke Turner a.k.a LUKAS caught a taste of the sounds of Bristol - Drum n Bass parties, hip hop jams, the huge acid techno free parties at the time. It didn’t take much persuasion to stay. The son of a jazz musician, and grandson of a touring orchestra, he also played the drums in two bands.
Inspired, he began to promote the (now legendary) monthly club night - BUOYANCY. From 2003 until the present day, the night continues, inviting interesting, lesser known acts to Bristol for the first time - Ame (Innervisions), Switch (Dubsided), Style of Eye (Classic) and many, many more … succeeding by pouring in his enthusiasm and love of music into the scene, meaning that a Buoyancy party creates maximum excitement - no matter where the action - in clubs, cellars, on a boat, or under railway tracks.
Informed by the events unfolding around him, Lukas’ skills as a DJ and producer have exploded. Using a combination of found sound and synthesis, his tracks are interesting, detailed, and intelligent, with an eye on the floor. They use shape and space to powerful effect. There is one key theme running through all though - a killer groove – from the drumming perhaps? Who knows… Through the parties, productions, and countless rocking dj sets, Lukas now finds himself at the centre of a scene in a city moving to a new 4 / 4 beat.
