+ FORMER PUNK GONE TECHNO
Francis grew up in Las Vegas, a typical punk-ass suburban kid. His youth was misspent picking fights and playing in bands with names like "The Jimmy Carter Solution." He studied philosophy but passed on academia when, upon hearing a Maurizio record, he experienced artificial joy for the first time in his otherwise brooding existence. Inspired, Francis turned in his guitar for a pair of 1200s but made sure to keep his spiked leather wristbands lest he go wuss. For his first gig, at halcyon, a brooklyn cafe doubling as a dj shop, Francis banged out big room club tunes at deafening volume, thusly chasing the five people in attendance and earning him a scolding from the owner, yours truly.
+ PRODUCER/DJ/FOUNDER, MATTER:-FORM RECORDS
Undaunted, Francis and two friends started throwing matter:form events on party boats or in private lofts. Strictly underground, matter:-form offered heads an antidote to the tired Prog being caned in the clubs. With the scene on lock, the crew imported top UK DJs like Layo & Bushwacka!, Mr. C, Terry Francis and Eddie Richards, featuring them alongside NYC's finest; Alexi Delano, Casey Hogan, Mike Bryant and David Hollands. As resident, Francis got the opportunity to play for crowds that were up for his brand of nasty, dark and yes, very loud house music... and it went right off! Bookings began to flow, and before haters could cry "cronyism!," Francis was rocking proper at world renowned London clubs (Fabric, The End,) and playing accross Europe; in Ibiza, Serbia, Turkey, France, and Italy. With the DJ career on the up, and the itch to revisit his roots as a musician, Francis began collaborating in the studios of fellow DJs during his travels. Sessions resulted in releases with Dave Mothersole, Tom Paris, Sean Cusick, Alpha Male, Erich Lee and Haris, on End Recordings, Big Chief, Surreal, and Intrinsic Design. Once in the record game, the matter:-form label quickly followed with Francis at the helm, providing staples in the Tech-House scene by Audio Soul Project, Altocamet, Mr. C, Eddie Richards, Greg Shiff, and Jay Tripwire.
